Momentum
'I'm still as strong today' JOSHUA 14:10
When, at the Olympics in 1996, Canadian sprinter Donovan Bailey ran the
100 metres in 9.84 seconds, he broke the world record and was hailed as
the world's fastest man. After his big win experts who critiqued videos
of the race made an interesting discovery: Bailey never once lost
momentum. In fact, he was still accelerating as he crossed the finish
line; even though he was running at over 30 mph!
Over the last couple of days we've looked at events from the book of
Joshua. Well later on in that story we find out some amazing things
about his best mate Caleb. Check this out: 'So here I am today,
eighty-five years old! I'm still as strong today as the day Moses sent
me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then'
(Joshua 14:10-14 NIV).
Caleb was a guy who still had momentum when he was an old geezer;
don't you want to be like that! It's clear that Caleb wasn't one of
life's sprinters, his aim wasn't top speed, he wanted to go the
distance. And that's exactly what he did by not allowing his strength
to be sapped by taking pointless detours.
Maybe he inspired the Apostle Paul hundreds of years later who wrote 'I
press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me
heavenward' (Philippians 3:14 NIV)
